Nube

El crepúsculo, manglar nuboso
afincando en la maravilla: dragones chinos
que se acoplan o bien esa mujer grávida
al mando de un carro de guerra de los legionarios;

nubes tan densas como la barba de Whitman
(los ángeles tienen afro);
y bajo el manglar de ensueño hoteles,
casuarinas colosales dispuestas a contraluz,
cuidadas y humeantes.

Regreso de los manglares junto a estas garzas
orgullosas; intuyo que saben mucho más que yo.

Debemos regresar a la orilla
de esta noche inédita.

Mangroves

Dusk, and the mangroves
of clouds, which sit low
into reverie; Chinese dragons
mating or big woman riding

chariot; clouds thicker than Whitman’s
beard (all angels have afros);
beneath them the hotels, giant casuarinas
in the half-dark, sawed off

and smoking. Now I must return
from the mangroves with proud
egrets, who know so much
more than me. We must

go back now to the shore
of this new night.
